Another set of crisp and colorful images with the vintage Nokia Asha 300 cell phone camera, launched in 2011, with only a 5MP rear camera, no front camera or flash support. I am still using the camera on the Nokia Asha, albeit occasionally, for the gorgeous images it will capture, and the ease of carrying it around. At 85 grams of body weight and a 113mm x 50mm x 13mm thick dimension, the Asha 300 is the smallest, slimmest, and lightest I have used.

Fully charged, the battery will still give up to a week on standby time, taking photos does not drain the battery too much either. The Nokia Asha is my go-to camera when going out for a quick dash, or when traveling light.

Another dawn session with a candy-bar 2011 production model, discontinued, which I am still using, albeit only occasionally now. The camera has served me well, and as far as I can remember, has always delivered sharp and scintillating 5MP JPEG images worthy of display on these pages.

Specifications of the candy bar include a 2.4-inch touch screen, 5 MP camera, FM radio, MP3 support, a microSD memory card slot, and a 24-day standby time. The Nokia Asha was then one of the leading phones on the market for battery life.

Still, one of my favorites, the candy-bar Nokia Asha 300, is small enough to slip in your shirt or pants pocket and goes wherever you go, comes with a single 5MP image sensor that is nothing to shout about, yet capable of capturing gorgeous images such as these.

Using the Nokia Asha 300 is straightforward and simple. With nothing to adjust, all you have to do is point and shoot, and wait for ages for the image to record before you're ready for the next shot.

Nokia Asha 300, A Morning Walk II

Grabbed these shots while I was out on a morning walk recently, around the vicinity of a mature housing development and an overhead LRT station. The idea of the walk was to experience the new environment I was in, while also looking for street stalls with breakfast offerings.

Though the area was near enough to the LRT line, which runs along the expressway bounding the development, the area was rather quiet with hardly any movement of people, which could very well be that we are still under pandemic movement restrictions.

The first image of the lone figure taking the crossing was a lucky shot as I was shooting right into the sun with nothing to control the camera setting, nor my vision, as I held the diminutive candy bar phone at arm's length to take the shot.

Still having fun with my come-back-to-life candy-bar Nokia Asha 300, while trying out a newfound genre that mobile phones are good at, close-up photography. Mobile phones, as we know, have lenses with incredible minimum focus distances which can be used effectively as a close-up camera, or when fitted with an auxiliary close-up attachment, as a macro monster.

When you have the camera held at arm's length, however, or with the camera pushed far forward and angled away from your eyes, using the camera at its closest autofocus distance, even without supplementary lens add-ons, is a guessing game. The best you can do in this situation is to take multiple shots, or a burst mode sequence, while moving the camera slightly forward or backward from your practiced distance.

The archaic Nokia Asha 300, like the one I was using here, does not have the close-up capability as later or more expensive camera models, but sufficient to say that it handles itself well as a learning or starter camera, which can be said of other lower-end mobile cameras as well. The subject of my curiosity here was a water-filled upturned cover of a garden bin that had collected a bunch of fallen leaves, captured against the reflected backdrop of the sky and covering foliage.

Nokia Asha 300, Celebrating Dawn

Wow, what a relief. For no apparent reason, aside from the fact that I plugged the charger incorrectly on a few previous occasions, my favorite candy-bar Nokia Asha 300 decided to come back to life. That was a joyous moment indeed, and as soon as the camera's battery was fully charged, I took it out to the porch for these celebration shots.

The 2011 vintage candy bar, which came with only a 5-megapixel rear camera, has been one of my favorites for quite a while now. It has always been my constant companion anytime I was outdoors since I dug it out of storage almost a couple of years back. The camera served me well, a constant with sharp and beautifully rendered images that never failed to deliver.

Am really looking forward to now, here's hoping that the camera will give me a few more great shots, even only for a while before age takes its final toll again.
