Time Lapse Photography, Catching the Setting Moon

Nokia 3.1, Framelapse
A couple of time-lapse trials at catching the setting moon, not entirely successful, looking forward to the next full moon.

Nokia 3.1, Mobile Phone Holder Tripod Stand

My first try at doing time-lapse videos of the setting moon. A very simple setup, my old and trustworthy Nokia 3.1 is mounted on a simple Mobile Phone Holder Tripod Stand. Images were shot at 2x magnification with FrameLapse, edited, and framed on OpenShot Video Editor.

Time Lapse Photography, Getting Started

HMD Nokia 3.1
There's not much in terms of hardware and equipment, just my age-old mobile and time to spare.

I had the time-lapse photography bug recently and decided to start learning the technique by doing a few on a trial basis. There is not much in terms of hardware and equipment, just my age-old 2018 version Nokia 3.1, and a low-cost Universal Mobile Phone Holder Tripod Stand. For the apps, I used Framelapse, which is available as a free download, and on my desktop, an installed version of OpenShot Video Editor.

Nothing much to show off here as yet, just the first few initial frames shot mainly from the front of the house with the camera perched on top of the car, or on the gatepost. The main virtue of this early learning curve is the time it takes for each sequence to be shot. Mine was one hour and fifteen minutes, shooting a frame every five seconds for a 30-second time-lapse sequence. Final edits, if done straight on the phone, do not take more than a few extra minutes, and all is done.

Time Lapse Photography, Rolling Skies

Nokia 3.1

My very first try at time-lapse photography editing.

Did my very first 10-second time-lapse video of the dawn a few days before the new year and posted that video earlier as my welcoming gesture for 2021. After that, I was ready for the next few mornings, but dawn did not turn out as expected.

I did, however, manage to capture a 30-second lapse on one of those days, and an edit session to concatenate the two videos together with a fast fade worked out to be a pleasant surprise. For a completely fresh novice like me, the edit sessions were like a shot in the arm and a boost of fresh adrenaline (rather than a vaccine for COVID-19), and might as well end as one of the resolves for 2021.

And as you have noticed, the video still has no soundtrack support, the channel that I hope to get on with soon.
