The extremely compact and portable Olympus Zuiko OM MC 28mm f/2.8, a lens acknowledged for its impressive optical performance, is one of the lightest Zuiko OM wide-angle lenses produced. The lens, introduced in the early 80s as part of the Olympus OM camera system, is an intermediate between the Zuiko 28mm f/2.0 and Zuiko 28mm f/3.5. It was one of the most popular Zuiko wide-angle lenses, surpassing even, in terms of sales numbers, both the 28mm f/2 and f/3.5. Known for being impressively sharp, especially in the center, even at f/8. The lens, according to Olympus, was designed with edges that trap potential flare before it reaches the film.
Colloquially mentioned as the perfect choice for travel, street, and landscape photography, the manual focus legacy, a retrofocus design with 6 elements in 6 groups and 6 aperture blades, measures 62 x 43 mm, weighs about 169 grams, has a minimum focusing distance of 0.3 meters, and takes 49mm filters.
One advantage of the Zuiko 28mm is that, although wide-angle lenses naturally have an extended depth of field, the Zuiko 28mm is the only one that can stop down to a minimum aperture of f/22 instead of the normally found f/16 (on other wide-angle lenses) for even greater control of depth of field.

On MFT (Micro Four Thirds) digital cameras with 2x crop sensors, as in this case the Olympus Pen E-P5, the Zuiko OM MC 28mm f/2.8 is equivalent to a 56mm lens on a 35mm full frame camera, a focal length that can still be considered to what is referred to as the standard lens range, with images that matches what the human eye sees, and looks natural to the viewer. Normal lenses, which are normally "fast" lenses (with a wide minimum aperture), are great as general-purpose lenses and can be used for photography genres from close-up portraits to landscapes.
The Olympus Pen E-P5, a solidly built retro design with a 16.1MP Four Thirds Live MOS sensor, was released in 2013. It is a highly regarded mirrorless camera with excellent image capability, fast autofocus, 5-axis image stabilization, a tilting LCD, good color response and noise control even at higher ISO settings, and an impressive dynamic range. The camera, however, lacks a built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF), which can be added on with the optional VF-4.
