Olympus Workspace, Editing B&W JPEG Images

Olympus Workspace - Editing B&W JPEG Images

I am just trying it out aloud here! Olympus Workspace does not have a Monochrome & Sepia edit function, which otherwise can be found on Olympus Viewer 3 (OV3), the previous version of the software.

You can, however, do black-and-white conversions from color JEPG images or from *.ORF RAW files by using the desaturation method or by way of the Grainy Film (and Grainy Film II) edit from the Art Filter selection.

I did neither of the above, but instead, went back to my archive of old black-and-white JPEG images shot on the Olympus E-P5, and re-processed a stack of the images on Olympus Workspace using the various edit functions.

It was an interesting exercise (which includes a fair amount of 'crushing the blacks') and opens me up to more of what Olympus Workspace can do to get me the best of image editing and post-processing out of the software.

Tweaks to these images include edits on the Gradation module, with an alternative of using the 'Pop Art' Art Filter for a slightly enhanced effect. I lamented earlier that Olympus Workspace does not have an Auto Tone Correction module, as it was available on OV3, but has realized that the same function is provided for by the Gradation module.

Other edits include Clarity, Dehaze, Highlight & Shadow, Tone Curve, Contrast, Saturation, and Unsharp Mask modules. With the two new edit modules that are made available on Olympus Workspace, Clarity can be used to enhance subject shadows and texture, while Dehaze is the way to remove haze and smoke from images.

Looking forward to a steeper learning curve next time around.
