The 12.1MP CCD Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35/FZ38, a superzoom digital bridge camera with a wide-angle 18x optical zoom (27–486mm equivalent) lens, one that will have a strong draw on vintage CCD enthusiasts, was marketed as the DMC-FZ35 in the United States and North America, and the DMC-FZ38 in Europe, the UK, and other international regions.

The camera, which earned high critical praise when introduced in 2009, replaces the 10.1MP CCD DMC-FZ28, which was launched earlier in 2008. Updates include a higher resolution sensor, AVCHD Lite 720p HD video recording, Power O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization), and stereo microphone recording.

The DMC-FZ35/FZ38 features, aside from the updated 12.1MP CCD sensor, a 27–486 mm equivalent f/2.8–4.4 18x optical zoom with Power O.I.S. stabilization; a shutter speed range from 60 to 1/2000 second; an ISO range from 80 to 6400; a 201,600-dots EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) switchable to the LCD display; and a 230,000-dots 2.7-inch LCD screen.

Images are stored on SD/SDHC cards and the camera's 40MB of internal memory. The camera measures 118 x 76 x 89mm, and weighs 397 grams with battery and card.

External features include a Record/Playback slider switch, which has been added to the top-right of the camera back. When set to Playback, it will flip the display to the LCD screen, regardless of whether you are shooting with the EV setup.

Although vintage by age, as it was introduced way back in 2009 (over 17 years ago), the Lumix DMC-FZ35/FZ38 is still considered a modern digital camera capable of delivering crisp, rich, and well-exposed straight-out-of-camera JPEGs when shot at low ISOs (80 to 200); natural, and punchy color science characteristic of its CCD heritage; and images that remain sharp across the zoom range, with pleasant background blur (bokeh) at maximum zoom of the Leica-branded glass.
