For the vintage enthusiast seeking a low-cost and easy-to-use compact SLR-like digital bridge camera with CCD image quality, the superzoom digital bridge camera Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28, introduced in 2008, may be the ideal choice.
The camera, which updates the DMC-FZ18, which was introduced earlier in 2007, features a 1/2.33-inch 10.1MP CCD sensor, an 18x optical zoom with a 27–486mm equivalent wide-angle f/2.8 aperture Leica lens, a 201,600-pixel electronic viewfinder (EVF), and a 230,000-pixel 2.7-inch LCD.
Technical specs include a lens aperture range from f/2.8 to f/4.2; ISO sensitivity from 100 to 6400; a shutter speed range from 60 to 1/2000 second; Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.); Contrast Detect AF with macro mode down to 1 cm; 1280 x 720 (30 fps) video recording in QuickTime Motion JPEG; Intelligent Scene Detection; and Face-Detection capable of detecting up to 15 faces in a scene.
The camera is powered by a Lithium-ion 7.2 V, 710 mAh 7.2 V Lithium ion battery (CIPA rated at 460 shots), SD/SDHC cards + 50 MB internal memory, and weighs 417g (with battery and memory card).

Though sharing the same body form as the FZ18, the FZ28 has the edge with its tech specs. The FZ28 has a bigger 10MP sensor (8MP on the FZ18), a 2.7-inch 230,000 pixels LCD screen (2.5-inch, 207,000 pixels on the FZ18), a faster Venus Engine IV image processor, and a new AF Tracking function that can 'lock' the focus on a moving subject.

The option of only using either the EV or LCD display, with no in-between, on the FZ18 has also been addressed. The Record/Playback selector, located on the shoulder of the thumb rest, can be set to function as Review, which permits playback of images on the LCD regardless of whether your display is set to EV or LCD.
