The Kodak PixPro AZ251, introduced in 2013, is an entry-level digital bridge camera designed for beginners or casual photographers who want the look and feel of a DSLR without the complexity or cost of owning multiple interchangeable lenses. The camera was made by JK Imaging under the official Kodak PixPro brand license. The 'AZ' designation, which stands for 'Astro Zoom,' refers to entry-level bridge cameras equipped with long-range optical zoom lenses.
The standout feature of the AZ251 (Astro-Zoom) is its built-in 24–600mm (equivalent) lens, which allows you to shoot everything from wide-angle landscapes to extreme close-ups of distant subjects. It is fitted with a 16MP 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor, which handles color reproduction quite well in bright, daylight conditions. The 3.0-inch LCD, with its 230k dot resolution, is easy to see in bright light.
Alongside fully automatic modes, which adjust the camera settings automatically, the AZ251's functionality includes standard PSAM modes (Program, Shutter priority, Aperture priority, and Manual), great for beginners looking to learn the basics of photography. Videos are recorded in 720p HD, with options for optical zoom, or filter settings for vivid, sepia, and black & white.
The camera is also enhanced with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) to help reduce camera shake when zooming or shooting handheld, and is powered by a set of 4xAA batteries, a very convenient way to power up the camera or to swap batteries while traveling.
Though smallish, the AZ251 is not really small enough to be pocketable. Handhold assist is provided with a rubberized grip and patch for the thumb on the back plane of the camera. The menu system, though easy to navigate, is slightly different from other cameras - access to shutter speed and aperture setting, as well as using the set button to change the white balance, is via exposure compensation.

Functional controls, through the mode dial on the top, give access to the PSAM and Auto, as well as panorama, landscape, and face beautifier modes. Access is also available for continuous shooting, video recording, the zoom rocker, shutter release, and Power On/Off slider.

On the back, the exposure compensation button gives access to ISO, aperture and shutter speed, depending the shooting mode you are on. The 'i' button (aside from the menu, playback and display buttons) gives access to the filters, Last, but not least, is the d-pad with a 'SET' button in the middle, and peripheral icons to access focus, macro, flash and self-timer modes.
