Pentax Optio WG-II, A Morning Edit
Fundamental basic edits include adjustments for brightness, contrast, exposure, saturation, and white balance, while cropping and straightening are essential for improving composition and ensuring the subject is the main focus.
Color correction and grading involve more advanced techniques of manipulating the color palette for a specific mood or style.
Retouching removes blemishes, wrinkles, or unwanted objects for a cleaner look.
Applying artistic filters and effects, like applying pre-set filters or editing for complex effects like double exposures or background removal, helps to add a creative flair.
At the opposite end, the SOOC (Straight-Out-of-Camera) ideals, a collection of thoughts that adheres to the concept of the absence of post-processing with images. The ideal will not remove items, tweak exposures or contrast, or use filters or plug-ins, or use image editing functions at all.
For SOOC images, some will even draw the line even with cropping (or trimming the edges), and tilt alignment to get the photo perfectly framed! Images are left untouched, seen as what the photographer saw and recorded.
Images here were shot on the Pentax Optio WG-II, a highly rugged, waterproof, shockproof, and freeze-proof compact camera known for its extreme durability, unique LED macro lights, and good image quality for its class.
The camera is fitted with a 16MP BCI CMOS sensor, and is capable of Full HD (1080p) video, macro shots, HDR, time-lapse, bracketing, and comes with an assignable green button. Image edits were done on the desktop image editor.

Konica Genba Kantoku Digital DG-2, Image Updates
The Genba Kantoku (Site Supervisor) series is known for being waterproof, dustproof, and shock-resistant, with simple controls suitable for tough conditions and easy glove operation.
The Digital DG-2, with its rubberized skin over a heavy-duty and weather-resistant body, features a 2MP CCD sensor, a fixed f/2.8 autofocus lens equivalent to a 38mm on a full-frame camera, and records images at 1600x1200, 1280x960, or 640x480 resolutions on CF cards.
The camera has an automatic exposure system, comes with a shutter speed range from 2 to 1/750 seconds, an optical finder, an LCD panel, a 1.8-inch TFT LCD screen, and is powered by 4 AA batteries.
The DG-2 updates the DG-1, which was introduced earlier in 1998, and was later replaced by the Konica Digital 現場監督 (Genba Kantoku) DG-3Z in 2003. The DG-2 measures 139 x 77 x 53 mm, and weighs 425 grams.
Being early in the years of digital development, the DG-2 does not have a video mode. It does, however, operates with in record and playback mode, with setup and edits, and flash cycle selection.
Both the Konica Genba Kantoku Digital DG-2 and its film predecessor, the Konica Genba Kantoku 28WB, are 'cult classics,' praised for their unique and functional aesthetics, extreme durability, and their retro digital look with high-contrast, early-2000s color science CCD images.

Konica KD-30M, A 3.3MP CCD Compact
The camera is known for its small size, zoom capability, and design cues from Konica's APS film cameras. Its production was targeted at the enthusiast market, with users seeking a compact, portable, everyday-use camera featuring easy-to-use features.
Features include a 1.27-inch 3.3MP CCD sensor, a fixed-focus 5.1mm lens (equivalent to a 34mm lens on a full-frame camera) with 4x zoom and 2-step manual adjustment, an optical viewfinder, a built-in electronic flash, and an 80,000-dot 1.6-inch TFT LCD Screen.
The lens focuses down to 0.2 meters in Macro mode, and from 0.8 meters to infinity in Normal shooting mode. Shutter speeds are 1/4 to 1/1000 second mechanical, and 1/1000 second electronic. ISO sensitivity is from 100 to 200.
The camera's functions are controlled by a Mode Dial with settings for Shooting, Playback, Movie Clip, and Setup, and by buttons on the back of the camera for engaging the Menu system and the LCD screen.
A directional keypad with functions for SET & Zoom-Up (right), Self-Timer (up), Zoom-Down (left), and for setting the Flash (down) to Auto flash, Auto flash with Red-Eye Reduction, Night Scene, Fill-in flash, and Flash off, is also available.
Images are recorded at 2560x1920 (via interpolation), 2048x1536, 1600x1200, or 1280x960, and saved to SD cards. The camera has approximately 16 MB of internal memory, measures 94 x 66 x 41mm, weighs 140 grams, and is powered by 2 AA-sized batteries.
Though seemingly more complex than current counterparts, operating the camera is quite simple and straightforward, as long as you remember the routine - slide open the lens cover, turn the Power Switch to On, set the Mode Dial to Shooting Mode, and select the Focus Range mode to Macro or Normal.
Use the Joystick Pad's right arrow to zoom in on the image, the left arrow to zoom out, and the down arrow to cycle through the Flash mode settings, and you are ready to shoot.
Images (as also seen in the following Photo of the Day postings) are, of course, characterized by a distinct, nostalgic "digicam" aesthetic from the 2000s, marked by vibrant, punchy colors, gentle highlight roll-off (bloom), low resolution, and their own unique noise patterns.
The KD-30M, by today's standard, is painfully slow with its image capture sequence. Take your time with the shutter release and image recording interval, savor the tactile experience of taking the shot as if on film with an analog camera.

Pentax Optio WG-II, Couldn't Ask For More
The camera combines durability with practical imaging features for activities like climbing, hiking, water sports, and everyday snapshots, and is handy enough to slip easily into your shirt pocket.
The Optio WG-II, launched in 2012 alongside its GPS-enabled sibling, is waterproof up to 12 meters, shockproof from drops of 1.5 meters, crushproof up to 100 kilograms, and freeze-proof to -10°C.
Specifications include a 1/2.3-inch 16MP BSI CMOS sensor, an ISO range from 125 to 6400, a 5x optical zoom lens equivalent to a 28-140mm zoom on a full-frame camera with an aperture of f/3.5-5.5, and a 3.0-inch 460,000-dot high-resolution LCD screen with an anti-reflective coating.
Notable for the digital compact are the six LED macro lights positioned around the periphery of the lens to enable the camera to be used for macro photography, with a minimum focusing distance of just 1 centimeter.
Exposure modes include a selection of scenes covering underwater photography, landscape, portrait, fireworks, and sports. Face detection supports up to 32 faces with smile capture and blink detection functions. A unique 'Handheld Night Snap' mode combines four exposures to improve low-light results, while the 'Digital Microscope' mode allows for extreme close-focusing at just 1 centimeter.
Barring trade-offs such as handling limitations and image quality not comparable to higher-end cameras, there isn't much more you could ask for, really. In normal lighting conditions, images are crisp and well-saturated straight out of the camera, requiring little to no adjustments for posting, and the sense of security from having a camera you can take anywhere and do most everything you do, justifies its value.
